Park(ing) Day 2024 returns to Knoxville on a new date and a new street! Join us on Union Avenue during Friday, October 25th from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm! This annual event is an opportunity for Knoxville residents and businesses to display their creativity, building pop-up parks in curbside parking spaces along Gay Street in Downtown Knoxville.
Initially started in San Francisco in 2005, Park(ing) Day is an annual event in which residents and businesses re-think the use of public space by converting metered on-street parking spaces into temporary parks. Since its inception, the event has spread to cities around the world and takes place globally on the third Friday of September, though Knoxville’s Parking Day is trying something new this year, occuring the weekend before Halloween (so feel free to make your parklets extra spooky this year)!
We want to have as many businesses, firms, and nonprofit organizations this year as possible. So form your creative team, put your ideas together, have fun designing, and register by October 18th! We hope to see you on Union Avenue for a walk in the “park!”
